Celtic have shown interest in Huddersfield Town winger Cameron Ashia, according to a report.

In the latest transfer rumour to emerge in the absence of a permanent Celtic manager or Head of Football Operations, the Hoops are now being linked with a winger.

That’s despite the signing of Joel Mvuka in January, a month which saw Martin O’Neill linked with a number of wide targets.

19-year-old Ashia is attracting a lot of interest, with a race set to take place in the summer.

Huddersfield Town’s Cameron Ashia attracts Celtic interest

According the Daily Mail via the 72, the Celts are keeping tabs on Ashia with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Rangers and Hearts are also credited with an interest, with a host of English Championship clubs also keeping an eye out.

Ashia is formerly of the youth academy at Derby County. This is his breakthrough season at the Terriers, but of his seventeen League One appearances, just two have been from the start.

He set up Ryan Hardie’s winner in their win over Luca Connell’s Barnsley at the weekend, registering a sixth goal contribution of the season.

He is also the nephew of Callum Hudson-Odoi, the Nottingham Forest winger who was subject of a £35 million bid from Bayern Munich during his Chelsea days.

League One has, at times, been a fruitful market for Celtic over the years. Matt O’Riley was one of the best players in the division when Ange Postecoglou won the race for his signature in 2022.

Damir Redzic, Fares Ghedjemis and Yaser Asprilla were among the wingers linked with the Hoops in January.

Luis Palma is currently out on loan from Celtic at Lech Poznan, whilst fellow flop Marco Tilio also left the club ahead of this season.

Chris Sutton on Celtic boss Martin O’Neill

Speaking for the Daily Record, Chris Sutton was unconvinced that O’Neill is fully satisfied with the club’s January transfer window.

He said: “He was in decent spirits and he declared himself happy with the business done by the club. I’m not so convinced, as I suspect O’Neill might have been putting on a brave face.

“Is he really happy?

“O’Neill is never going to say otherwise but I have my doubts, particularly about the players arriving on deadline day.

“Junior Adamu and Joel Mvuka have struggled in recent times and might be coming in with points to prove.

“Benjamin Arthur is a highly rated young player at Brentford but he’s had limited first team exposure and it would only take an injury or suspension and he might be getting thrown into games like the derby at Ibrox.

“That could be a big ask. The feeling that remains is my old Celtic manager could do with all the help he can get.”
