A new report has indicated that Celtic are still interested in doing a deal for Liverpool wide player Owen Beck this month.
Celtic were first linked with a move for the left-sided talent earlier this month, but it was said Liverpool had rebuffed initial advances to sign him.
However, Football Scotland reports today that the Bhoys are still keen on landing him and are waiting on Jurgen Klopp’s final decision on Beck’s future – who could be needed as cover for Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.
Beck has been a standout talent in the Scottish Premiership this season with Dundee, where he featured on loan as a left-back and left midfielder before being recalled to Merseyside.
He played 17 times for the Dens Park club, scoring twice and assisting another two goals, earning the plaudits of pundits and his manager Tony Docherty.
His form has alerted both Celtic and Rangers to his potential, though it’s unclear whether the Bhoys would be looking to sign him on loan or on a permanent basis.
Celtic need a left-back in the door
Brendan Rodgers badly needs competition and cover for Greg Taylor, who has started all 29 of Celtic’s matches so far this season.
Alexandro Bernabei is rarely seen and is thought to be one of the players on the verge of a potential exit from the club this month.
Most fans would like to see the club go out and sign a potential long-term upgrade on Taylor. A loan move for Beck wouldn’t necessarily accomplish that unless a purchase clause is inserted in any deal.
Beck’s contract at Anfield runs until 2026, so he’s not going to be arriving on the cheap.
However, this could be a chance to get in on the future of a fantastic talent before making a major breakthrough elsewhere. It’s easy to understand why Celtic are interested, but there are hurdles to overcome.
He’s not the only Liverpool talent said to be interesting Celtic this month either, with the Bhoys reportedly keen on goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
