Celtic talent Ben McPherson is heading to Scottish Championship side Queen’s Park on loan for the season, journalist Alan Nixon has reported this weekend.
McPherson has been linked with a loan to Austria in recent weeks but Nixon reckons he’s set for a stint closer to home and on the verge of joining Celtic’s Glasgow neighbours.
Now 19, the right-back was included on Celtic’s pre-season trips to Portugal, Japan and Ireland. Brendan Rodgers gave him opportunities in first-team friendlies and he caught the eye of supporters.
However, it seems it’s currently a stretch for him to fight his way into contention at Celtic. He’s also past the stage that Lowland League football would be beneficial with Celtic B.
A loan to Queen’s Park, who have ambitions to finish high up the table in the second tier, looks like a good move for him. He’ll remain in familiar surroundings but get the chance to play regularly for a forward-thinking team.
McPherson signed a new Celtic contract in December 2022 that keeps him at the club until 2025, so there is plenty of time for him to impress on loan and return for a push into the senior Bhoys squad.

Celtic have already sent Adam Montgomery out on loan to Fleetwood Town and similar deals are expected in the coming weeks. Both Tobi Oluwayemi and Matthew Anderson have been linked with temporary moves elsewhere.
There could be a shift in the future of Rocco Vata too after it became apparent he is wanted by clubs across the continent.
