Celtic target Ali McCann impressed plenty of people watching the Scottish Cup final today as his St Johnstone side secured a glorious cup double at the expense of Hibernian.

McCann has been scouted multiple times by Celtic this season, with reports in November and earlier this month indicating there is legitimate interest from the Bhoys in the 21-year-old.

Interim boss John Kennedy is a noted admirer too, telling reporters a couple of weeks ago [YouTube]: “I’ve obviously watched him when we’ve played them and from afar.

“I think he’s an impressive young player who’s improved with the exposure to first-team football. One thing for Celtic is we always have to keep our eye on the best young talents in Scotland – that’s the first point in terms of who you’d want to scout.

“If there are good young players in Scotland then you want to make sure you know about them.”

Well, he certainly fits into that category.

Nominated for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award, he’s helped his club to sensational success this season and looks set for a move to a bigger club elsewhere.

His contract runs until 2023 so Saints won’t be in any rush to sell him. They’ll certainly be looking for a decent fee.

What strikes me about McCann is his composure on the ball and technical ability. He very much looks to have the kind of potential that is worth giving time to at Celtic, much like David Turnbull and Ryan Christie in the past.

Fans of all clubs seem interested in him with Celtic, Hearts and Rangers supporters taking to Twitter today to share their thoughts on his performance…
