Celtic target Jari de Busser now looks destined to leave Go Ahead Eagles.

Stephen McGowan revealed this week that De Busser’s club have been made aware of Celtic interest as a summer rebuild slowly begins to take shape.

The retirement of Kasper Schmeichel was confirmed on Wednesday morning, creating a vacancy for next season regardless of whether Viljami Sinisalo remains as number one.

De Busser’s goal prevention stats certainly make him an interesting option, and the wheels look to be in motion for his exit.

Go Ahead Eagles sign Kjetil Haug as Jari de Busser replacement

Go Ahead Eagles have announced the signing of Kjetil Haug, formerly of Arsenal, Manchester City and Bodo/Glimt, on a free transfer from Toulouse.

The Dutch media are widely tipping him as de Busser’s replacement.

This week’s report described Celtic’s interest in de Busser as ‘tentative’, so no offers appear to have been sent for the 26-year-old.

His teammate, 22-year-old Danish midfielder Jakob Breum, is also of interest to the Hoops, who chased him so publicly last summer.

The interest has reportedly been reignited, so this time they’ll be hoping not to be mocked by the Go Ahead Eagles sporting director as they were during last summer’s window.

De Busser is also reportedly on the radar of Club Brugge, who themselves are about to lose their experienced ex-Premier League goalkeeper to retirement in the shape of Simon Mignolet.

He is 6 ft 3 in tall, and started his career in his native Belgium. He wasn’t a starting goalkeeper at any level until his mid-20s.

A goalkeeper appears to be a priority for Celtic’s recruitment department this summer, with Nikolas Polster also being linked with the Hoops.

Motherwell stopper Calum Ward is also reportedly of interest, along with his club teammates Elijah Just, Tawanda Maswanhise and Elliot Watt.
