Greg Taylor and Kieran Tierney have donned Scotland colours together and now they could do the same at Celtic.
The noise around Tierney re-joining Celtic is beginning to spice up and it is expected to be the main talking point for the champions this month.
Rewind back to the January transfer window of 2024 and Celtic signed Nicolas Kuhn, who after his early struggles, has turned out to be a gem and the club’s best player this season.
So, bringing in those players midway through the campaign works, even if you are an unknown and upcoming star like Kuhn.
Therefore, you are almost guaranteed success with a man like Tierney, who is highly regarded by the fanbase and needs those regular starts to get his career back on track.
But it’s fair to say that the Arsenal star’s possible return has sparked a major talking point and it has started with the manager, Brendan Rodgers.
Brendan Rodgers unhappy with Celtic fans chanting Kieran Tierney’s name
Taylor started Celtic’s 3-0 win over St Mirren on Sunday, days after the whole team put in a horror show at Ibrox, and Rodgers’ comments post-match were rather interesting.
Every Celtic fan is aware of the Tierney talks, so understandably, those inside Parkhead were singing the left-back’s name during the match.
But Rodgers deemed that disrespectful and called out those paying their tickets, as posted by Celtic TV.

“Total lack of respect, of course it is,” said Rodgers. “Look at Greg Taylor. He has been absolutely amazing at this club. How does he feel? He’s playing, bleeding, breaks his nose bleeding for the club, for the cause.
“I’m more worried about the players that’s here. It’s not very respectful. You sing for another person, no matter what Kieran’s history is. I don’t like that. I hear the stuff around him in the Champions League.
“I put myself in his shoes, playing left back in the game, and they are singing the name of someone else and he’s stood on the side and the supporters are singing the name of another man, especially when you’re doing so much for the club and have given so much for the club. It’s so frustrating.”
Michael Stewart questions if Greg Taylor will sign a new Celtic contract if Tierney re-joins
Taylor is yet to sign a new Celtic contract, which just adds further drama to this Tierney talk because the man behind him is on-loan from Barcelona – Alex Valle.
So, in that sense, clarity is needed in regards to who will be the club’s number one left-back, but Michael Stewart thinks Rodgers coming out and defending Taylor is a sign that he has a ‘hell of a lot of respect’ for his player, as he told Premier Sports.
But Stewart also questioned what type of impact, Celtic fans chanting Tierney’s name, will have on Taylor and if he will now question putting pen-to-paper on a new contract.
“I think what it shows you is that Brendan Rodgers has got a hell of a lot of respect and time for Greg Taylor,” said Stewart. “Because it’s not the first time he has come out batting for him saying, ‘look, you need to get a new contract sorted for him’, so that’s the first thing.
“The second thing, having a go at the fans for cheering for Kieran, that’s a tough one. Brendan mentioned it himself and obviously the history Kieran has at the club. The status he has. The connection he has got. Football is an emotive sport. Fans get caught up in it. That’s what it is. Fans are excited by it.
“When you talk about trying to carry three strikers and how improbable and difficult that would be. I can’t help but think it falls into the same category with two fullbacks. Kieran Tierney coming back as a marquee signing and everything else that goes with it. How does that impact Greg Taylor? Never mind, just in terms of the contract negotiations, but psychologically. He is the number one. You have potentially got somebody coming in that he knows. Greg Taylor is thinking, ‘do I sign it?’. I am summarising here, but he is probably looking for a bigger deal because he is the established left-back that the manager really likes. I feel for him.”
