Celtic went 13 points ahead of Rangers in the title race as Brendan Rodgers’ side took care of St Mirren 3-0 at Parkhead.

Celtic beat St Mirren convincingly as the Paisley club offered nothing but the intent to snuff out the game and waste time at every opportunity which made it hard for the Bhoys to break them down.

However, it seems that the fans showing their impatience with the team’s style of play from the Celtic Park stands has annoyed Brendan Rodgers as he urged the Hoops support to offer more encouragement at times like that, not criticism.

The Celtic boss also criticised the Parkhead support for singing about former hero Kieran Tierney as speculation surrounding a return to the Bhoys continues to ramp up citing the signing as ‘disrespect’ to current fullback, Greg Taylor.

And it seems that the comments have caused a mixed reaction amongst the Celtic supporters as they have their say on Rodgers’ stinging criticism.

Some Celtic’s fans agree with one part of Brendan Rodgers’ criticism

The comments have certainly caused a debate amongst the Celtic supporters with one fan replying, “Any fan that watched Zagreb, Dundee Utd and the Rangers game knows we haven’t been at our flowing football for a while now consistently. If you can’t ask questions after watching them 3 games then you’re not a true fan that cares enough for your club.”

Indeed. Another fan commented, “Every word bang on, nerves is part of the game, fans can be nervous but there’s no need to show that & translate/transmit to the players.”

Are Celtic a victim of their own success? This Celtic fan certainly seems to think so:

Another Celtic fan agreed with Rodgers, “He’s right. The clue is in the name – supporters! If you’re not with this team you’re not a Celtic supporter. I was there again today and I support the team on the pitch every time I go to a Celtic game. Faithful through and through.”

But another Celtic supporter said the manager was wrong to criticise the fans and said, “Brendan is out of order here. We watched back and slack passing for 90 minutes at Ibrox…so did he. So he should not even try to deflect.” and another praised Rodgers for being plucky, “It’s divided the fans that’s for sure. I think he just had to get it off his chest. Did he need to though? A brave man and certainly caused a storm already.”

Celtic fans react to Kieran Tierney ‘disrespect’ to Greg Taylor

The potential return of Kieran Tierney to Celtic has excited the fans and whilst Rodgers was annoyed at the fangs singing his name, the Hoops boss seems to be off the mark after he called the signing ‘disrespectful to Greg Taylor.

One fan said, “I really don’t see the problem with the Tierney song, seen someone on this say if it was Jota getting sung about it wouldn’t be disrespectful to Maeda or Kuhn would it?”

Another fan agreed and said, “The KT thing though is a bit much. He said it’s like someone singing about another manager, no because you can have 2 left backs at a club. You don’t sign a backup manager.”

It seems that Taylor didn’t show the Celtic fans respect with what he did at full-time as this fan said, “I think if you pay your money to watch the team you can react how you want, you can see where he’s coming from but going straight down the tunnel after the game doesn’t show the “respect” he’s talking about.”

And finally, with Taylor still to put pen to paper on a new Celtic contract, this fan made a very good point, “I don’t think the Tierney song was aimed at Taylor although I get his point we are trying to get Taylor to sign a new deal and that’s not helping.”

The comments have certainly caused a discussion but by the time Dundee United comes visiting tomorrow night, the Celtic supporters will be fully behind the team as Rodgers looks to successfully defend the Scottish Premiership title.
