Celtic told it’s ‘very frustrating’ that the club had to conclude one transfer deal this summer

A total of seven players have left Celtic so far this summer.

It has been less than a month since the 2025 summer transfer window has been in full flow, but Celtic have been pretty busy without any explosive deals so far.

That’s both incoming and outgoing, with Kieran Tierney perhaps the standout arrival, and Greg Taylor exiting after his contract expired, making the main headline the other way.

That Taylor move was expected, just like Daniel Cummings’ move and decision to join English Premier League side, West Ham United.

Celtic’s sale of Daniel Cummings to West Ham United ‘very frustrating’

This isn’t the first time an academy player has left Celtic and joined a team in England, with the likes of Rocco Vata, Ben Doak and Mikey Johnston doing so in recent times.

Hugh Keevins noted on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard how it was ‘very frustrating’ for Celtic that Cummings left, and then they had to go and sign Callum Osmand from Fulham.

There isn’t much difference between the two because they have little experience at the top level, with Cummings only playing once at senior level and Osmand yet to be tested.

“It must be frustrating for Celtic,” said Keevins. “To bring up players like Daniel Cummings, and he goes off to West Ham.

“They have to bring in a player from Fulham’s academy. We know all about the Rocco Vatas and Daniel Kellys. Who have gone off.

“Very frustrating for Celtic, because they put up a lot of work in the academy, and your men today, for them, English clubs represent the holy grail.”

The financial switch in England and Scotland

As the English Premier League money continues to grow, clubs like Celtic become helpless because of the financial difference between the two.

Celtic can’t match the wages these guys want, even probably from teams in England’s second-tier, as was proven by recent sales.

What’s interesting is that Cummings has gone from Celtic’s younger age groups to West Ham’s U21, so it remains to be seen how his career now develops.
