Celtic told they would be ‘stupid’ not to sign Elijah Just after Motherwell campaign

Celtic fans are patiently waiting to see who will be the club’s manager for next season.

When that is signed, sealed and delivered, then Celtic can get on with enhancing and refreshing a declining squad.

One man who Chris Sutton wants in the colours of Celtic next season is Motherwell’s rising star, Elijah Just.

During the recently concluded campaign, Motherwell played the best football in the league, with Just at the heart of it, as Sutton told the champions of Scotland that they would be ‘stupid’ not to bring him in.

“Just is just a revelation,” said Sutton. “I think he is such an intelligent footballer. He can’t be at Motherwell next season.

“If Celtic or Rangers don’t touch him, then they are stupid.”

Would Elijah Just be a good addition to the Celtic team?

Chris Sutton and Kris Boyd wowed by Elijah Just’s Motherwell campaign

Jens Berthel Askou has left Motherwell, and he has been appointed the coach of Ligue 1 side Toulouse.

That will probably start the ball rolling in Motherwell players leaving, as Celtic shouldn’t hesitate to put money on the table for Just’s talents.

Hearts forward Claudio Braga won Player of the Season, but Kris Boyd seemingly suggested on Sky Sports that Just probably deserved that title instead.

Sutton: “Just is just a revelation. I think he is such an intelligent footballer. He can’t be at Motherwell next season.

“If Celtic or Rangers don’t touch him, then they are stupid.”

Boyd: “Elijah Just, I will be honest with you, but I thought this (Motherwell) was never going to work (at the start of the season).

“Then you look at Elijah Just, and people like that. They started to build, and build. Then you have seen someone, you have got to say, there has been a lot of chat about Player of the Year, but I think his performances deserve to be right up there, in terms of nominees.

“The way he receives the ball. The way he takes people on. It’s something we don’t really see anymore. The way he glides past people. He can go with both feet. Predominantly more left-footed. I think he has been an outstanding signing for Motherwell.”

Just’s season for Motherwell in numbers

Just can play all over the shop from an attacking sense, which is another bonus to his qualities and another reason why he should be wearing the famous green and white colours next season.

Matt O’Riley was outstanding for Celtic many years ago, and he played the game in Glasgow like he had all the time in the world.

You sense that Just has something similar to his game, as Sofascore gave him a rating of over seven for his 2025/26 Premiership campaign at Fir Park.
