Shin Yamada’s concerning interview

Shin Yamada has expressed concern over his current form ahead of a proposed £1.5m switch to Celtic this summer.

The Kawasaki Frontale striker is due to fly to Glasgow for a medical after Japan complete their ongoing EAFF E-1 Football Championship campaign.

Yamada earned his first cap for Japan during the tournament, but wasn’t happy about his 45-minute display and his 2025 as a whole.

He said: “I went into the game with the feeling that this was my chance to impress and although we won, I thought I could have done more.

“I think that going forward, when we compete in the World Cup, it will be against far more difficult opponents, so I need to keep that in mind as I work on my national team progress.

“I thought I might have been able to score a goal, but I think I learned a lot from this.

“On a personal note, I have to admit I have had a disappointing season. I set high standards for myself and I don’t think I met them if I am being honest.

“Yes, I enjoyed a very good season previously and scored a lot of goals, but for whatever reason it didn’t happen again this season.

“I think the team played in a different style and that made a difference, but I am fully aware I have to raise my standards.”

Giuseppe Ambrosino addressed by Cremonese

Celtic loan target Giuseppe Ambrosino has been directly addressed by Cremonese’s sporting director Simone Giacchetta.

The Napoli striker is wanted by at least three clubs this summer, with Cremonese submitting a €3m bid for the Italy U21 starlet.

Celtic appear to be interested in a loan with option to buy deal, as Giacchetta said: “Do we want to build a strong team to stay in Serie A? Yes, our goal is clear: we want to fight until the end for survival.

“Could Giuseppe Ambrosino be a good addition to our squad? We’re interested in many young players, and Ambrosino certainly deserves close attention. While he’s not yet a top goalscorer, he’s shown some interesting qualities.”

Jeffrey Schlupp to West Bromwich Albion?

Jeffrey Schlupp could be on his way to EFL Championship club West Bromwich Albion after his loan spell at Celtic last season.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed on social media that West Brom, who are managed by Ryan Mason, are showing interest in Schlupp’s services.

The EFL expert claims the Midlands side are ‘plotting a move’ for the versatile defender after his short spell in Glasgow on loan from Crystal Palace.

Michel-Ange Balikwisha’s training absence explained

Celtic are currently in talks to sign Royal Antwerp winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha, and could land him for less than £5m.

Balikwisha did not train with the rest of his teammates on Wednesday at Antwerp’s pre-season training camp in Austria.

Stef Wils, manager of Antwerp, explained exactly why: “They’re struggling with classic preparation ailments. After three and a half weeks of inactivity, we’ve trained hard these past few days.

“I’d rather have these guys do something different for a day and get back on track, rather than pushing them to their limits.”
