Celtic transfer target nominated for prestigious European award
Celtic transfer target Aaron Hickey has been nominated for the prestigious ‘Golden Boy’ award this year.
The award, which is whittled down from a list of 100 top prospects from various European leagues, is voted on by the public but ultimately decided on by a panel of journalists.
The winner will be announced at the end of the year.
Previous ‘Golden Boys’ include Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, demonstrating the kind of tough competition that Hickey will be up against.
Young players from the biggest clubs on the continent are included this year, as you’d expect. This includes Mason Greenwood of Manchester United and Billy Gilmour of Chelsea.

Celtic continue to be linked with Aaron Hickey

The Bhoys were also heavily rumoured to be keen on a move for Hickey last year before his switch from Hearts to Italy. Former Tynecastle boss Craig Levein stated that Celtic tried to sign him a number of times. [BBC]
Hickey, 19, was once on the books as a youngster at Lennoxtown but moved to Hearts for a sell-on fee percentage in order to gain regular first-team football. He made a big impression in Edinburgh before winning a transfer to Serie A.
The Scotland youth international made 12 appearances in all competitions for Bologna last season, initially cementing himself in the starting eleven. However, a shoulder injury that required surgery ruled him out of action from March onwards.
It feels unlikely he’d be willing to leave his new club after less than a year, but perhaps he has unfinished business at Celtic Park.
I expect we’ll be hearing more about Hickey this summer, whether via rumours or more substantial links.
