With less than a week to go before the new season kicks off, Brendan Rodgers has still to add new outfield players to his current Celtic squad.
The Hoops boss finished the task of finding Joe Hart’s replacement after securing the signatures of Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel for Celtic this summer.
With a number of positions requiring the attention of the Celtic manager, it seems now that he is looking to bolster his options up top to help offer competition for Kyogo Furuhashi this season.
Celtic want Canada’s Jacen Russell-Rowe
We discussed earlier the reasons why Celtic allowed Hyeongyu Oh to join Genk this summer. That move meant that Celtic were left thin in the striker department and it seems that Rodgers is not looking to remedy that.
According to The Scottish Sun, Brendan Rodgers wants to sign Canadian international, Jacen Russell-Rowe, as the Celtic boss looks to add to his front line this season.
Russell-Rowe is a Canadian international teammate of Alistair Johnston and has six caps for his country but is yet to score for Jesse Marsch’s side.
The 21-year-old currently plays in the MLS for Columbus Crew and was taken to the Copa America where he made just one appearance in the 2-0 defeat to Argentina.

A versatile attacker, Russell-Rowe plays mainly as a centre forward but has been known to have been deployed as a secondary striker, a winger and even as an attacking midfielder. [Transfermarkt]
In 75 career appearances, the MLS frontman has scored an impressive 35 goals and created 12 assists since making his professional debut for Toronto FC II in 2019.
Out of contract at the end of December, Russell-Rowe wouldn’t command a huge fee but Columbus does have the option to extend it for another two years if they wish.
