Celtic wanted to sign ‘very exciting’ youngster from Arsenal this summer but failed

Celtic have been linked to a number of players this summer especially as the goalkeeping position remains open after the retirement of Joe Hart.

20 different goalkeepers have been linked to Celtic so far and with Peter Vindahl Jensen being the most talked about so far, the fans will be hoping that the club are close to appointing Hart’s successor.

However, as we have already seen this week, Celtic are not solely focusing on the goalkeeping position or even just the first team.

After taking in Cliftonville duo Ryan Corrigan and Shay Reid on a week-long trial, it seems that Celtic are also keen on strengthening their academy squad.

Which leads us to the club’s attempts at trying to sign a highly-rated former Arsenal youngster for free this summer.

Celtic wanted Amario Cozier-Duberry

Amario Cozier-Duberry was said to be one of the brightest prospects to come out of the Arsenal academy in recent years.

Out of contract this summer, a report in The Standard claims that Celtic alongside Rangers, Aston Villa, West Ham, Ajax and Borussia Dortmund were tracking the 19-year-old winger before he decided to join Brighton on a four-year deal.

Highly rated by Arsenal academy coach, Jack Wilshere, the former Gunners midfielder also revealed that Mikel Arteta was a huge fan.

Wilshere said [talkSPORT], “Amario is very exciting and Mikel [Arteta] likes him.

“He reminds me of Bukayo Saka, plays in the same position as him, needs to get better with his decision-making like Bukayo did, but he’s definitely exciting.”

Predominately a right-winger, Cozier-Duberry can also slot in at the left flank and can play as a striker.

An England U19 cap, the youngster has scored three goals in eight appearances for his country and in 83 appearances for the Arsenal youth team, Cozier-Duberry has netted 30 times and created 18 goals.

With Celtic looking to strengthen the wings, Cozier-Duberry could have been an able deputy for Nicolas Kuhn or even may have made the breakthrough at Celtic just as Jeremie Frimpong did back in 2020.

However, that ship has now sailed as the Celtic fans continue to watch and wait for Brendan Rodgers to make his first signing of the summer.
