Celtic watch another target slip away after record Elijah Just deal agreed

Celtic supporters have repeatedly been told that the club are searching far and wide for the players Martin O’Neill needs this summer.

Dermot Desmond promised Celtic manager Martin O’Neill that he would be backed this summer, but one player Celtic had watched for months who was right under the club’s nose, has now agreed a record-breaking transfer.

Elijah Just has been on Celtic’s radar since January, but after the Motherwell winger had a brilliant World Cup, a deal has been agreed to take the Fir Park star to the Championship this summer.

Celtic target Elijah Just set for Swansea after record agreement

The Daily Record reports that Just has agreed his record move to Swansea after the English Championship club met their asking price for the 26-year-old.

The fee is reportedly set to eclipse the £5m Motherwell received for Lennon Miller, making Just the Fir Park club’s record transfer.

The deal will be completed in the next 48 hours with Just handed permission to head to Swansea to complete a medical.

Celtic cannot keep watching the market move without them

Martin O’Neill scouted Just last season and it was thought the New Zealand international may well have ended up at Celtic this summer.

But as it stands, Celtic identified him, watched him and then allowed his value to explode without acting.

How Swansea can get deals done this quickly as Celtic meander along this summer will further infuriate the Parkhead support who have watched deals for Iheanacho, Saracchi and other targets collapse.

Whether Elijah Just would have become a Celtic player is beside the point. What supporters continue to watch is another player the club have looked at disappearing elsewhere while Celtic are still searching for reinforcements.
