Celtic will be watching as Kieran Tierney now not even included in Arsenal training

Kieran Tierney is increasingly finding himself on the sidelines at Arsenal after it was reported he is now not even taking part in Mikel Arteta’s training.

Football Daily, owned by Sky Sports, uploaded footage from the Gunners’ sessions to social media today and noted that Tierney was one of five players not training under Mikel Arteta. Arsenal reporter Connor Humm later stated they were all working in a separate group.

It’s part of a trend for Tierney in London, who has found his game time reduced under Arteta and now looks almost certain to be heading for a future elsewhere.

That’s relevant to Celtic, who have been linked with a sensational reunion with the left-back all summer. It was reported back in June that Tierney was open to the idea, while subsequent reports in July suggested that manager Brendan Rodgers was very keen on a potential move, too.

There are logistics and realities to overcome in any return to Glasgow, of course. Arsenal may well still see him as a sellable asset despite being frozen out of Arteta’s squad, while his wages will be well beyond anything Celtic can pay.

Nonetheless, if the Bhoys have strong resources and a will here, a move for Tierney can not be counted out. Rodgers himself refused to rule out the possibility when asked about the subject in media conferences earlier in the summer.

Tierney and Celtic have a strong connection and that could help overcome the multiple hurdles that stand in the way of a blockbuster switch to Scotland. Newcastle and Real Sociedad are other clubs who have been consistently linked with a move for the Celtic Academy graduate.

The next week looks set to be a big one for the defender and I doubt we’ve heard the last of him in a Celtic context.
