Celtic need a striker and on paper, Louis Munteanu fits the bill perfectly.
Munteanu is set to leave CFR Cluj next month as the Romanian Superliga side struggle to balance the books financially.
It has been a long time coming for the 23-year-old, who tried to force a move away in the summer.
The Hoops were one of those interested in his services and there is no doubt that Munteanu would improve Celtic’s options up front.
However, it seems that any hopes of signing the Romania international are slipping away.

With the window getting closer and closer, Munteanu’s future is closer to getting resolved.
Cluj chairman Iuliu Muresan has admitted that they are in ‘advanced talks’ with an unnamed club to sell the 23-year-old, but Celtic are not the side in question.
He told DigiSport: “We are in advanced discussions to sell two more players and we will solve the financial problems. Louis Munteanu is one of them. If it happens, and there are very high chances, the financial situation will change. The amount is satisfactory and realistic compared to what CFR is now and what Louis Munteanu is now.
“No, he [Celtic] hasn’t contacted us at all. Nothing has reached the club. The club hasn’t been contacted by either the manager or anyone on their behalf. It’s hard to believe that it wouldn’t have reached me.”
Back to the drawing board for Celtic
If Munteanu isn’t going to be the answer, then Celtic will need to rethink their options sharpish.
Pundits across the board have called for an improvement upfront and with two of the options out injured, that need is greater than ever.
