Celtic's stance on Josip Juranovic clarified; supporters should be relaxed

Celtic are not actively interested in selling Josip Juranovic this summer, Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has clarified today.

Joseph’s organisation reported Atletico Madrid interest in the Bhoys right-back earlier this afternoon, sparking worry that talk of a Juranovic exit is firming up.

However, as we’ve discussed already today, Celtic hold all the cards when it comes to Juranovic’s contract situation and now Joseph has stated that the club are not looking to sell the Croatian during this transfer window.

He posted on social media: “Celtic are aware that many clubs are interested in signing right-back Josip Juranovic. However, they have not received any offers for the Croatia international and they do not want to sell him this summer. It would take a huge bid from a club for that stance to change.”

There isn’t a summer transfer window that goes by without teams showing interest in Celtic players. It goes with the territory.

That interest developing into a bid that’s Celtic find suitable is a whole other matter.

Cleary, the Bhoys will only be brought to the table if it’s money that can’t turned down.

If nothing else, Joseph’s update seems to refute the rumours going around on social media and forums that Juranovic could have a minimum release clause in his contract.

That kind of thing is not common at Celtic and it doesn’t appear to be in place here, if Celtic feel like they can be bullish on the fee received for him.

More than that, as Chris Sutton and others have pointed out, Juranovic is happy here.

I don’t think Celtic are going to be caught cold here. We’re not going to lose the Croatian without at least having identified a viable first-team replacement.

We should be entirely relaxed about this situation, as much as we are fond of Juranovic and what he offers the Bhoys.

In other news, Stiliyan Petrov is excited about imminent Celtic move for Jota.
