For the most part, you can’t fault what Celtic do in the transfer market, because it is of high quality and intelligence.
Celtic’s main transfer model is based around trying to find some of the best young gems in world football, bringing them into the champions of Scotland, and then transforming them into superstars.
From Celtic hero Matt O’Riley to someone like Moussa Dembele from Brendan Rodgers’ first spell, or Liverpool’s new signing, Jeremie Frimpong, they have all donned the green and white colours at a young age and done wonders.
But, during the January transfer window, the powers that be at Parkhead probably made more calls to their team than they wanted to.
Of course, Kyogo Furuhashi’s exit stole the headlines, but the winter window also saw a loan star from Barcelona, Alex Valle, also depart and join Cesc Fabregas’ Como 1907.

Cesc Fabregas lauds ex-Celtic player Alex Valle after he secures a £5 million Como 1907 transfer
Valle has now completed a £5 million transfer to Como, and it’s the type of deal that Celtic would conclude, but as Rodgers said in the winter, the club didn’t expect to lose the young Spanish star, but they did.
As you can imagine, Fabregas is delighted with this deal, and he told Como’s official website that Valle is ‘one of the most interesting talents of his age’.
“Álex is a talented young defender, and he has proven it in the last six months,” shared Fabregas.
“He has integrated perfectly and in a very short time into the team’s mechanisms, showing all his qualities, both defensively and offensively.
“With him, Como has secured one of the most interesting talents of his age, who will be very important for the team in the future”
Celtic have missed a big trick as they push to sign Harley Mills
Celtic have to bite the bullet here. They have missed a trick, and they shouldn’t have let Valle go because, for £5 million, they would have paid that fee all day long.
But it seems as though talk of Kieran Tierney returning, just before the winter, perhaps got a few people excited, including how the departing Arsenal man could arrive in January.
It didn’t happen, and whilst Tierney returns in the summer, another left-back is needed because it looks like Greg Taylor is out of the door.
That’s why there are suggestions Celtic are looking to sign Peterborough United’s young starlet, Harley Mills.
