Celtic are believed to be confident that their latest offer for Jeonbuk striker Cho Gue-sung will be accepted as negotiations prepare to continue [Sun Sport].

Ange Postecoglou’s side are on the hunt for a new option to lead the line, with speculation suggesting that Giorgos Giakoumakis will depart Celtic Park this month.

A number of options have cropped up for the Hoops. However, the Bhoys’ number one target in the winter window appears to be South Korean frontman Cho Gue-sung.

The 24-year-old has been impressing in his homeland and recently burst onto the global scene after scoring an impressive double for his country at the World Cup.

As expected, his performances in Qatar and in South Korea have caught the attention of clubs across the world, including Celtic.

Reports have suggested that the Hoops have been chasing the striker for a number of weeks, with the player’s representative aiming to secure a move for the Jeonbuk man.

In recent days, the chase for the striker has slowly started to heat up, with a host of clubs placing their offers in for the South Korean international.

Celtic have been joined by Bundesliga side Mainz, and MLS team Minnesota, with all three clubs appearing the most active in negotiations.

According to reports from Sun Sport and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Celtic have tabled a bid of £2.6 million, with a 50% sell-on clause up to £5.2 million.

As we reported yesterday, Mainz appear unlikely to continue their pursuit of Cho after being priced out of a move.

And although Minnesota are believed to have tabled a higher offer of £4.4 million in for the striker, Celtic are still leading the chase, thanks to the player’s aspirations of playing in Europe.

Talks are currently taking place in London with the Jeonbuk sporting director, and the player’s representatives have previously hinted that a decision could be made over the coming weekend.

Of course, it still appears there is some work to be done before any move for the in-demand player is complete.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s side looks to be in the best position to secure the signing, with the Sun’s report stating that the club’s hierarchy is ‘confident’ our current offer will be accepted.

With speculation starting to ramp up regarding Giorgos Giakoumakis’ future at Parkhead, this move for Cho-Gue-sung would come at an ideal team.

We will have to wait and see in the coming days whether Celtic are correct to be taking a ‘confident’ stance as the next stage of negotiations prepares to get underway later this week.
