A key figure at Bundesliga side Mainz has admitted that the Germans could be priced out of a move for Celtic target Cho Gue-sung this month.
It is already known that Celtic have bid for the South Korean forward who netted twice at the recent World Cup.
Mainz also have a real interest in the player, but their ‘board member for sports and communication’ Christian Heidel has today been speaking.

“We are looking for strikers. That’s not a secret,” he said. (The Herald)
“With regards to Cho Gue-sung, we like the player – that’s why we asked the question to his club.
“But if Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors can sell him for the price quoted in the media of €3m (£2.65m), then Mainz doesn’t matter because we won’t be in the market.”

So it is pretty clear from those quotes that Mainz have an upper limit for what they’re prepared to spend on Cho Gue-sung.
This is more good news for Celtic after yesterday’s report that the player has his heart set on a move to Europe.
Without knowing Celtic’s intentions fully, you would assume we’d be happy to pay more than £2.65m, given that we shelled out nearly £5m for Kyogo 18 months ago.
Most of our signings under Ange Postecoglou have tended to be around the £2-4m mark so it is no surprise to find out that’s what Cho is likely to cost.
This one may rumble on for a bit longer, but the noises are increasingly encouraging.
