Celtic appear to be ramping up their summer transfer activity, that’s according to Parkhead hero Chris Sutton.
Sutton has been very vocal about the Parkhead club’s lack of transfer activity and even said that Celtic’s deal for Kieran Tierney had a ‘question mark’ over it due to the fullback’s injury record.
However, with Ross Doohan already in the building and Celtic agreeing a deal for Benjamin Nygren this weekend, Brendan Rodgers looks like he is stepping up his moves to strengthen his side ahead of the new signing.
But Sutton has poured a little bit of cold water over the Nygren deal as the Celtic hero appears to try and temper the fans’ expectations over the incoming Swede.

Benjamin Nygren could be ‘another project’ signing at Celtic
The summer transfer hype surrounding Nygren appears to have created excitement amongst the Celtic support but Sutton has moved to temper that with a warning about the Swede.
Sutton wrote in the Daily Record, “It looks like they are starting to ramp things up with Tierney in the door and Nygren seeming to fit the bill.
“Celtic have a decent track record with Swedish players after all. Nygren is still fairly young and is developing though.
“He could be another project – albeit one that’s further down the line than some. He appears a solid signing but he should be signed to complement the likes of Kuhn – not replacing him.
“As Celtic can’t be toothless going into the Champions League.”
Benjamin Nygren’s scoring & assist record doesn’t scream Celtic ‘project’
The word ‘project’ is feared by many Celtic supporters because it relates to the club’s lack of foresight in signing proven quality players.
Whilst there are players who have been signed as projects that have turned into success stories, Celtic fans will freely admit that there has been plenty of failures.
However, at 23, Nygren’s all-time scoring and assist record certainly doesn’t scream project to 67 Hail Hail:
- Appearances: 196
- Goals: 62
- Assists: 20
- Sweden caps: 4
- Sweden goals: 2
If anything, Celtic appear to be buying a player who has found his feet and is now looking to kick on to the next level.
