Christopher Jullien flight mystery cleared up after Celtic defender's cryptic update
Christopher Jullien is in Germany to hold signing talks with Schalke, Football Scotland has reported.
As we discussed last night, Jullien uploaded then deleted a picture to Instagram on Tuesday evening, indicating he was on the move after taking part in Celtic training on Monday.
67 Hail Hail now understands he flew from Edinburgh to Dusseldorf.
Football Scotland say it’s all part of Schalke’s interest in the French centre-back. The Bundesliga side are in a prime position to now sign him, despite other interest from Ligue 1 sides.
The Scottish Sun report Rennes and Lorient are also keen.
However, if he’s in Germany then it seems that Schalke are his preferred choice and that his exit could actually be imminent. Generally, a player would not leave pre-season preparations if the situation is not advanced.
A fee of £1.5m has been mentioned as the possible price, although there’s no firm reporting on that at the moment – it was simply said this could have been the value of bids from France.
Regardless of the loss made on his £7m arrival at Celtic Park, this will be a good move for all parties. The Bhoys get him off the wage bill and free up room for another central defender, while Jullien finds a team he can play regularly at.
The Frenchman hasn’t been in Ange Postecoglou’s plans at all despite returning from injury in January and this is far more preferable than Jullien sitting unhappily in Glasgow.
With just a year left on his contract, this is the right move and hopefully we hear confirmation of his transfer soon. It’ll be a good sign Celtic are ready to bring in another option.
