Christopher Jullien speaks after permanent Celtic exit is confirmed

Christopher Jullien has signed for French club Montpellier from Celtic on a permanent basis, the Ligue 1 side confirmed in a statement on their official website this evening.

Jullien signed for the Bhoys in 2019 and had an excellent debut campaign, before missing a significant chunk of time to a horror knee injury.

By the time he had returned to fitness, Ange Postecoglou had taken charge and moved on to a new defensive pairing, with the Frenchman getting very little game time throughout 2022.

Jullien was handed opportunities in pre-season, but it had already become clear an exit was on the cards after a failed move to German side Schalke, who he had travelled to sign for.

Speaking to Montpellier’s official website tonight, the 29-year-old said: “I am very happy to join MHSC. I immediately felt a warm atmosphere, everyone welcomed me. Now, I’m eager to start.

“My legs are tingling. I left Ligue 1 quite a while ago and I’m happy to be back in the league. A new page is opening up here at Montpellier and I’m very happy about that. I can’t wait to meet the Montpellier fans and I hope we’ll have some great adventures together.”

It had previously been reported he signed a three-year deal with the French club, who have paid Celtic €1m for his services.

Ultimately, it’s positive he’s being moved on despite making a significant loss on his transfer. He isn’t in the manager’s plans and it doesn’t make sense to have him on the wage bill.

We wish Christopher all the best with his new move and hope he finds the regular football he’s wanted since returning from his knee problem.
