Columbus Crew star spotted at Celtic Park for Glasgow derby fuels transfer rumours

After watching Celtic crumble against Rangers in the Glasgow derby, it is clear that the Hoops need reinforcements.

New signing Julian Araujo made his debut as a second-half substitute, but Wilfried Nancy will need a lot more than that to be satisfied.

A striker is an obvious shout, as is a ball-winning midfielder, but there are other positions that need addressing too.

Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is facing calls to be replaced while a centre-back also seems like it needs extra bodies.

Luckily, there is someone that Nancy knows well that could potentially help in that situation.

Wilfried Nancy’s former Columbus Crew defender spotted in Celtic stands

According to the Daily Record, Columbus Crew defender Steven Moreira was spotted in the stands at Celtic Park for the loss against Rangers.

Moreira, 31, is a right-sided centre-back who played under Nancy at the MLS side.

Anthony Ralston has been filling in at right centre-back but has looked out of sorts, while Auston Trusty has been no better next to him.

The defender was regarded as a key figure in Nancy’s side across the pond and would have no problem with adjusting to his tactics.

Wilfried Nancy on Steven Moreira

Given his popularity in Columbus, it is no surprise to hear that Moreira is one of those who has waxed lyrical about Nancy.

Under his stewardship, Moreira evolved from a full-back into a centre-back, and Nancy was a huge fan of his.

He said: “He’s a versatile player. “I like that. Doesn’t mean that he’s going to play all the time as a center back. He can play fullback. He can play also as a late midfielder. It’s all about the animation…

“What I like about Steven is that he’s able to understand what we want and he’s able also to coach and to help the players on the pitch to understand what we want. For me, I like him because he puts doubt in the opposition.”
