Belgian top-flight side KV Mechelen have signed Celtic winger Marian Shved on a loan-to-buy basis, it was announced on their official website today.
Shved signed for Celtic in January 2019, though didn’t make the move to Glasgow until last summer.
He failed to make any significant progress under manager Neil Lennon, making just three substitute appearances in total.
The Ukrainian hasn’t been part of the squad throughout pre-season and in the early stages of 2020/21 campaign, apparently seeking a move elsewhere.
Mechelen say the two-cap international has signed on a temporary basis, though they hold an option to buy the attacker.
This is a good move for Shved to attempt to get regular first-team action under his belt and frees up space in Lennon’s squad to perhaps sign another winger.
Only Karamoko Dembele currently competes for James Forrest’s spot on the right-wing, with Mohamed Elyounoussi and Mikey Johnston available on the left.

Hopefully Shved does well in Belgium, allowing Celtic to gain some sort of transfer fee at the end of his loan.
It’s unfortunate he never really got the opportunity to show what he can do, but we have to trust that Lennon saw enough of him in training at Lennoxtown and that he wasn’t of the standard required.
All the best Marian!
In other news, David Turnbull has been speaking about the injury that wrecked his Celtic move last year.
