Decision beckons for Celtic as clubs enquire about Ismaila Soro

Brendan Rodgers has added five new faces to the Celtic squad this summer. And with that, there comes a balancing act as we all know there are certain players who will not feature for Celtic this season under the new manager.

One such player is Ismaila Soro. The Ivorian midfielder was purchased by Neil Lennon for £2m in 2020 from Israeli side Bnei Yehuda but hasn’t made a first-team start since the 3-2 win over Real Betis back in September 2021.

His time at Celtic could be coming to an end after a report by The Sun says Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Be’er Sheva have both made enquiries about the 25-year-old.

The report also claims that Celtic are deciding to either allow the Ivorian to leave the club for free or take a ‘modest fee’ for his services.

Either way, it does seem that his Celtic career could be coming to an end before the transfer window closes in September.

Soro was one of the shining lights in a very poor season that saw Celtic fail to win the coveted ten in a row. The midfielder showed battling qualities in Neil Lennon’s final season at the club.

But for all his endeavour, Soro just couldn’t hold down a first-team place at Celtic. His last appearance for the club was in the 3-0 win against Rangers in February 2022 where he came on as a second-half substitute for Matt O’Riley for the final two minutes of the match.

A season on loan at FC Arouca was next for the midfielder. And even though he made 30 appearances he didn’t manage to convince the Portuguese club to take a chance on him and he returned to Celtic this summer.

I hope that Soro does get the opportunity to move this summer. At 25 years old, there is still time for him to kick-start his career as it is clear he will play no further part for Celtic under Brendan Rodgers.
