Carl Starfelt’s move to Celta Vigo has been sealed with an announcement surely not far away.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on the Swedish defender’s Celtic departure, and it is all a case of when and not if.
Romano informed his 17 million followers on Wednesday lunchtime: “Deal sealed. Carl Starfelt joins Celta on four year contract, clubs signing all the documents today.” (@FabrizioRomano on Twitter)
There wasn’t anything else from the Italian, but it is clear that now that the deal is a formality. Starfelt will be joining the side who finished 13th in last season’s La Liga.
With the documents to be signed on Wednesday, you would expect the transfer to go through before the weekend, with Celta keen to get their man in for the start of their league campaign.
From a Celtic point of view, it would be nice to have it all confirmed so we can pay our thanks to Starfelt and move on to his replacement.

It does seem very much like it will be his compatriot Gustaf Lagerbielke but Dutch defender Xavier Mbuyamba has also been mentioned in recent times.
Whatever the case, Celtic must act decisively to replace Starfelt. We can’t afford to wait too long with just Cameron Carter-Vickers and Maik Nawrocki left as first-choice options.
To be fair to the club, it seems like they have moved quickly on Lagerbielke, with Starfelt’s agent even playing a role in the move.

Starfelt joined minutes after Kristoffer Ajer’s departure was announced in 2021. It would be great to see a repeat of that in the coming days.
Over to you Celtic.
