Dinamo Zagreb receive substantial offer for Dominik Livakovic but it’s not from Celtic yet

Fenerbahce look to be the main rivals to Celtic on any move for Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, if reports coming out of Turkey today are accurate.

It was reported by Sky Sports earlier that the Bhoys are closely monitoring the well-regarded Croatian international, with the goalkeeping position a priority to the recruitment staff at the Bhoys this summer. However, the situation with Fenerbahce appears to be a little more advanced.

Journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu said on Friday: “Fenerbahce made significant progress in meetings with Dominik Livakovic and Dinamo Zagreb. At the moment, the best offer made to the player and his club came from Fenerbahce.”

Turkish outlet T24 have also reported that an offer of €9m [£7.71m] has been tabled after rounds of negotiations. If that is the case, Celtic may have to move quickly to get any deal done.

A fee of that size is a significant outlay for the Bhoys, but not completely out of the realms of possibility for the right player. Brendan Rodgers is thought to have large transfer resources at his disposal this summer.

In the Scottish media, Football Scotland have corroborated the Sky Sports information on Celtic’s interest in Livakovic but, crucially, have said that no bid has yet been made to the Croatian side by the Bhoys.

So, that’s the reported state of play at the moment. Celtic are keen, Fenerbahce definitely are too and seem to be already making their move to try and tie him down.

The 28-year-old has one year left on his contract in Zagreb, so looks certain to be leaving this summer one way or another. For me, it would be very exciting if Celtic was that destination. But there could be a few twists and turns here before anything is official.
