The future of Gustaf Lagerbielke at Celtic looks to coming to an end this summer as a third club prepares to launch a late big to take the defender on loan.

Lagerbielke‘s time at Celtic has been tough for the Swede after making just ten appearances since his £3m move from Elfsborg last season.

We discussed last week how the out-of-favour Celtic defender was in talks with Hereenveen after the Dutch club made their move.

Derby County were said to be looking at Lagerbielke despite talks with Hereenveen reaching an advanced stage and now, according to The Scottish Sun, a third club has made their interest known and could launch a bid to sign the 24-year-old.

FC Twente want Gustaf Lagerbielke on loan

Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente are said to be looking at Lagerbielke and are considering making a move to land the Celtic defender on a season-long loan.

Twente are still looking for a replacement for Robin Propper who joined Rangers this summer and it seems they see Lagerbielke as the man to do just that.

The Dutch side had a successful season finishing third in the Eredivisie which put them into the qualifying stages of the Champions League.

However, they were eliminated 5-4 on aggregate by RB Salzburg and will now continue their European journey in the Europa League.

Rodgers will allow ‘ultimate professional’ to leave Celtic

Brendan Rodgers looks set to allow Lagerbielke this summer after the Celtic boss confirmed that the Swede needs to go out and get first-team football.

Speaking in last week’s pre-match press conference, Rodgers said, “I think to be fair to Gustaf, to go and play would be important for him. He and I have spoken on this here.

“It’s been a difficult move for him but I have to say he’s been absolutely brilliant – every day in training.I recognise how difficult it has been for him at times not to be on the bench and to be training here as a small group on a Saturday morning or Sunday morning.

“He’s never once wavered from being the ultimate professional and for me, he deserves the chance to go and play. He’s not been in my plan to play but he’s been a great teammate and a real privilege to coach. He deserves an opportunity to go and play and we’ll see what that looks like.”

Despite lacking in first-team minutes, it’s clear Rodgers has a lot of respect for Lagerbielke. Unfortunately, the move to Celtic just hasn’t worked out and it looks like his time at the club is coming to an end.

Hopefully, the big Swede gets the move he needs this summer so that he can show why Celtic paid £3m for him but it does seem that even if he does do that, a future at Parkhead is not on the cards for the young defender.
