Elijah Just says it’s “nice to hear” speculation linking him with clubs as big as Celtic.

Just’s links to Celtic have been much-spoken-about in Glasgow after he was nominated for Scottish PFA Player of the Year for a stellar season.

He achieved this at Motherwell, where manager Jens Berthel Askou has already kickstarted what is likely to be a summer exodus.

Speaking about the links, Just didn’t hide that he is happy to hear them.

Would Elijah Just be a good addition to the Celtic team?

Elijah Just: I want to play at the highest level

Speaking after New Zealand’s 4-0 defeat to Haiti, Just said: “There is speculation but I’m just focused on the World Cup.

“Hopefully I can show myself a little bit better than I did against Haiti.

“Who knows what will happen? If I’m heading back to Motherwell, we’ve got exciting European games and whatever else.

“It’s nice to hear my name mentioned with big clubs and it’s not something I expected going in.

“But it’s a testament to not only my hard work but the whole squad. We were brilliant last season but it’s not only me who deserves plaudits and links. A few of the boys have been outstanding.

“I want to play at the highest level, absolutely.

“I’ve been bouncing around lower leagues in my career so to take a step this year and show a little bit of my potential was nice.

“But of course, everyone wants to keep pushing and test themselves to see how far they can go. It was an incredible season.

“Of course, when you have such a good group and coaching staff, it’s always a bit sad when it comes to an end.

“Players will leave and obviously Jens is already gone so who knows what’s going to happen. I wish Jens all the best. I think it’s a pretty cool move for him and he deserves it.”

Scottish Premiership players of interest to Celtic

Celtic are never too far from a link to a Scottish Premiership player, but there is an especially high number of rumours ahead of this summer.

Just is one of no less than four Motherwell players linked: Elliot Watt, Calum Ward and Tawanda Maswanhise are also reportedly of interest.

Josh Mulligan of Hibs, a player of a similar profile to Watson, was linked with Celtic in January but isn’t short of suitors for the summer.

Calvin Miller and Barney Stewart of Falkirk have been linked, but the former has now joined Hearts. The Hoops are one of many interested clubs in Dundee’s Luke Graham.
