Celtic are now in the hunt for goals as Kyogo Furuhashi heads for the exit door.

It’s sad to see, but at the same time Kyogo is set to leave Celtic, Ange Postecoglou is also under pressure at Tottenham and there are question marks over his future.

Postecoglou has a League Cup semi-final to deal with – second leg against Liverpool where they are leading – Spurs are also in the FA Cup and have qualified for the last 16 of the Europa League.

All on top of the mounting injury issues the Celtic hero has had to deal with, but they sit 15th in the Premier League table after their last outing.

Tottenham were beaten 2-1 by Leicester City on Sunday and it’s eight defeats in ten matches, the Celtic fans will tell those in power at Hotspur Way to understand the situation and be patient, but it’s a ruthless business in the Premier League.

One man who might have put the final nail in the coffin for Postecoglou has been mooted in a possible move to Parkhead, as Kyogo leaves for Rennes.

Jamie Vardy mooted for possible Celtic move as he scores against Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham

Jamie Vardy is a wind-up merchant of the highest order, but he backs it up on the field, as he did against Spurs, scoring home and away against them this season.

That’s seven goals for the one-time Premier League winner this term and Craig Moore questioned on Go Radio whether Brendan Rodgers could sign the striker.

Rodgers worked with Vardy at Leicester City, where the duo won the FA Cup together, but Andy Walker thinks it’s a deal that simply isn’t going to happen.

“Kyogo’s goals are consistent and they are regular,” said Moore. “He is perfect for the way that Celtic play. He will be a big loss. There’s no doubt about that.

“Will Celtic still be able to finish the back end of the season in a strong positive manner? Or, do they tail off a little bit and then in the off-season, the conversations are a little bit different?

“You talked about it earlier and maybe a top-notch player coming in on loan, or something like that. I haven’t watched every game, but is Vardy playing every single week down the road? He has seven* goals and is 38. Brendan has worked with him.”

Andy Walker responded: “I don’t think he will be the one. I think they will get someone in. Whether it’s someone on loan.”

Vardy’s record in the Premier League

A player whose career blossomed in the later stages, Vardy has gone from non-league to writing one of the great stories in football when Leicester won the Premier League title in 2016.

He was the main man up top, but now, in his late 30s, he is coming towards the end of his career and you don’t see any reason why he would move.

Plus, from Celtic’s perspective, there is no reason for them to go down this road of bringing in a player who is 38 and will probably hang up his boots sooner rather than later.

Yes, Kasper Schmeichel and Joe Hart have been outstanding for Celtic, but signing an ageing goalkeeper compared to an ageing striker is a different ball game altogether.
