Swedish side IFK Goteborg have made a cheeky enquiry for Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas, but expect the Bhoys to pay most of his wages.
That’s the update from Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph this evening, as we enter the final few days of the January transfer window.
Celtic remain open to offers for the Greek, who is well down the pecking order at the Bhoys due to the form of Joe Hart and the presence of Scott Bain.
Clearly, this doesn’t seem like a beneficial deal to Celtic. Barkas may well be on a pretty high wage at the Bhoys – he did sign on a multi-million-pound transfer after all.
However, surely the minimum we can expect is to move him off the wage bill. It doesn’t seem very prudent to let him leave for pastures new without at least shedding the bulk of his salary for spending elsewhere in the Celtic squad.
Celtic are widely expected to have a few players move on before the January deadline. Ange Postecoglou basically confirmed that in a press conference today.
You’d think Barkas would be a prime candidate, but if nobody is willing to bite on a fair deal then we may end up stuck with him for longer than we thought.
That’s the thing about signing players who fail to make the grade, it’s often much harder to shift them than buy them.
In other news, Ange Postecoglou answers question on Albian Ajeti’s Celtic future.
