Celtic midfielder Scott Robertson has signed for English League One side Fleetwood Town on a two-and-a-half-year deal, it was confirmed this afternoon.
Former Celtic captain Scott Brown, now manager of Fleetwood, has been left pleased with the deal, stating: “He’s a fantastic signing for the club and I’m delighted to get it over the line. I knew him from my time with Celtic and have had the opportunity to see him grow as a person and a player over the years.
“I’m sure he’ll be great for the club. Both myself and Scott have a bond with Celtic and they were brilliant to deal with throughout the move.”
Robertson is a product of the Celtic academy but hasn’t been quite able to bridge the gap to the first-team set-up on a consistent basis.
He made just one competitive appearance for the Bhoys, against Cluj back in the 2019/20 season. He was included on the recent Celtic tour to Australia and was handed minutes, though never really looked like part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans.
After loan spells to Gillingham, Crewe Alexandra and Doncaster Rovers, Robertson has now left on a permanent basis.
Joining Fleetwood is a great chance for him to perform at a decent level under a person who has already had a big influence on his career as a senior player at Celtic.
The 21-year-old could be given an early debut too with Fleetwood stating he should be eligible for this weekend’s match against Sheffield Wednesday if international clearance comes through.
The very best of luck to him!
