Nicolas Kuhn’s future at Celtic is a major talking point.

There are several clubs keen on Kuhn’s talents, including Newcastle United, who have been an interested party for a while.

If Celtic get through their Champions League qualifiers, then there is a chance that they could meet Eddie Howe’s men next term, just like they did with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

But where will Kuhn be amid speculation around his future? From RB Leipzig to Newcastle, it seems as though an exit could be on the cards.

The 2025 summer transfer window re-opened on June 16, and Newcastle’s name popped up again for the man dancing down Celtic’s right wing.

Newcastle United fans don’t hold back on Nicolas Kuhn rumours

Newcastle are looking for a right-sided winger, after Miguel Almiron’s exit in January, and Jacob Murphy being the sole player performing in that position.

Even though Murphy was one of the best players during the second half of the 2024/25 Premier League season, Howe needs to bulk up his squad, and there are suggestions that there is interest in Kuhn.

Some of the Toon Army faithful didn’t hold back in how they felt about these rumours, as many on social media were questioning the level Kuhn plays at.

@LightfootShane didn’t hold back: ‘Bang average, no better than what we have.’

@alanthegreat84 doesn’t think Kuhn is ahead of Jacob Murphy: ‘£15m to boost numbers on the bench is 👍. But I don’t think he is ahead of Murphy.’

@comeonthetoon noted the league Celtic play in: ‘No no no no no, absolutely bang average playing in a league 2 standard league.’

But @Steaky82 wants Kuhn through the door: ‘Said it for a while he’s a good player and for that price, be all over it.’

Another Newcastle fan questioning the standard of the Scottish league, as @mcclownisadog added: ‘Can hardly big up his scoring record, it’s the Scottish league mate…. Mickey Mouse at best.’

@nufc89ta thinks Kuhn is an ‘Eddie Howe player’: ‘Played 10 games in the Champions League last season, 3 goals against Leipzig and Bayern, 1 assist. Looks very much an Eddie Howe player, lots of running, pressing, pace, plays on the last man.’

@StiffUpperLip_ used Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson as examples: ‘Some folk commenting here forgetting that Van Dijk & Andy Robertson both came from Scottish teams, can’t forget the good ones just to fit a narrative.’

@Craig5470199938 thinks Miguel Almiron is better: ‘Miggy was better.’

Another unhappy Newcastle fan: ‘Defo not. Murphy would look like Messi if he went to the Scottish league. If this is the best we can do we’re in trouble.’

@JZMCC88 questioned Kuhn’s performances for Celtic: ‘Bang average player in a standout team.’

@stuber991 thinks the German could make the step up: ‘Would need time to get him in premier shape, but a decent player.’

@BobbyGoa explained Kuhn’s qualities: ‘This is a signing I would like #nufc to make cos Kuhn offers something different to what Murphy/Elanga. He is more technical on the ball with playmaking skills. Much needed when we are not able to generate chances through our pressing game.’

Kuhn’s stats for Celtic in the Champions League

There is a section of Newcastle fans unhappy with the Kuhn rumours, because he plays in the Scottish Premiership, even though the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney and John McGinn made a name for themselves on those very same shores.

But the highest level Kuhn has played at is the Champions League, so you can’t downplay or disrespect him for what he does in Europe.

Kuhn’s success stories in last season’s Champions League campaign were against clubs from Germany – Leipzig and Bayern Munich.

Added to that, WhoScored provided him with a rating of over seven for his performances, so he must be doing something right.
