Celtic and Rangers have gone to battle to win the signature of players before, but neither of them will be signing Pierre Ekwah.
Ekwah had been linked with Celtic and their Glasgow rivals before the January transfer window had opened, despite only joining Saint Etienne from Sunderland in the summer.
Relations appeared to have broken down between the two parties and the Frenchman would be on the move.
Now, with deadline day in full swing, his next destination has been confirmed.
Where do Celtic still need to strengthen after signing Tomas Cvancara and Julian Araujo?
Pierre Ekwah to join Championship club on loan
While the Bhoys seem like they are focusing on other areas of the squad to improve, Ekwah will be returning to the UK.
Anthony Joseph has reported that the 24-year-old will be joining Watford on loan for the remainder of the season.
He is yet to make a single appearance this season but can fill in at centre-back or in the middle of the park.

Celtic have dodged a bullet by not signing Pierre Ekwah
As vital as it is that Celtic need new bodies through the door, they still need to be the right character. It’s clear that Ekwah did not fit that.
Forget his lack of gametime that would have taken him time to get up to speed, the off-field issues could threaten to disrupt a season that has already been shrouded in chaos.
These signings need to come in and make a positive impact, not make things harder.
