Former Neil Lennon Celtic ‘priority’ transfer target leaving his club on free

Celtic had a strong summer transfer window with a healthy number of new stars arriving.

Arne Engels, Luke McCowan, Kasper Schmeichel and Auston Trusty joined Adam Idah, Paulo Bernardo and Viljami Sinisalo as the permanent arrivals while Alex Valle joined on loan from Barcelona.

Fans could hardly complain when the window shut in September and they had significantly strengthened their squad and spent plenty of cash.

Some nit-pickers were hopeful of adding one or two more with a third striker option and a wide man potentially two positions manager Brendan Rodgers might have looked towards if he was to be greedy.

The window came and went, however, and Celts have started the season off brilliantly. Unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership and with four points from three matches in the Champions League.

The January window is not too far on the horizon, though, and there’s one player who could be available on a pre-contract after it was revealed by local media that he plans to leave his current club.

Fenerbahce’s Bright Osayi-Samuel, according to Star, will depart the club next summer on a free having seemingly already rubber-stamped his future.

It could potentially see Celts return for the playmaker who was previously considered a “priority” transfer target back in 2021 by then-boss Neil Lennon.

The Nigerian has played 147 times for Fener since making the switch from QPR and chipped in with seven goals in that time as well as 14 assists.

Osayi-Samuel would also not break the bank as a freebie and, at just 26-years-old, would still come into the Celtic transfer philosophy in terms of prime age to make maximum impact in the first-team.

We told you back in September how Osayi-Samuel could be available on a bosman should Rodgers wish to add him to his squad as a reinforcement and challenger for Daizen Maeda or Nicolas’ Kuhn’s spot.

It comes as Luis Palma’s future with the Hoops remains up in the air.
