Forrest and Postecoglou on how the Celtic dressing room is feeling about transfer business

The impact of transfer business for Joe Hart and James McCarthy is already being felt in the Celtic dressing room, say James Forrest and Ange Postecoglou.

The Bhoys completed deals for Hart and McCarthy earlier this week, two internationalists who have plenty of experience at the highest level.

Hart has only completed one training session and played one game since arriving, while McCarthy was unveiled today ahead of his first training session tomorrow.

However, Forrest made it clear after yesterday’s win over Jablonec that their announcements alone have given himself and other players a boost, telling BBC Radio Scotland [05/08, 21:54]: “It’s good to get a win, score some goals and feel good about ourselves again. Obviously, it gives us a good lead going into next week and we can hopefully build on that.

“There are a lot of quality players at the club. And a lot of young boys have done well in training. Those two signings, you just feel a difference straight away. It’s a massive boost. It’s really good for the young lads and senior lads as well. Hopefully, signings like that can push us on.”

Meanwhile, Postecoglou has also been taken by the way Hart is applying himself, believing he is already seeing the benefits of having the long-serving England goalkeeper around.

As quoted by The Scottish Daily Mail [06/08 print edition, page 91], he said: “We’ve not met McCarthy yet but a few of the foreign boys have been asking about him.

“Joe Hart’s presence was massive, even when he came in for his first training session. They are great signings by the club and they’ll definitely help the changing room.”

From listening to Postecoglou over the last few weeks, you got the impression he was desperate for a bit of seniority and personality in the squad.

He’s spoken multiple times about quiet, reserved players. Or that he wants to bring in players based on who they are as people as much as the ability they have.

The manager is trying to forge a team unit. Adding professionals like McCarthy and Hart will help massively to that end.

I’m looking forward to seeing how we progress from here.
