Celtic’s pursuit of Tobias Lauritsen took a dramatic twist this weekend as Sampdoria enter the race for the free agent Norwegian striker.

Lauritsen caught the eye of Celtic this week as the Parkhead club look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

But now, Martin O’Neill faces serious competition for his signature as the Serie B sleeping giants Sampdoria make contact to sign the 28-year-old.

Sampdoria move in on Celtic target Lauritsen

Sampdoria are the latest club to be linked with a move for Lauritsen but that interest took an aggressive step forward this weekend.

Gianluca di Marzio reports that the Italian club have now made contact with Lauritsen as they take the next step to sign the player on a free transfer.

If Martin O’Neill wants to add Lauritsen to the ranks, then Celtic need to get their finger out and make their move or they could be left with yet another transfer hard-luck story.

Celtic face a decision on Lauritsen

At 28, Lauritsen is entering his prime years as a striker and being available for free, a deal should be relatively simpler to get done for Celtic.

Lauritsen is an experienced and physical number nine and is the type of striker Martin O’Neill loves.

The pressure is on Celtic now. Sampdoria have blinked first and made their move, it’s now up to the Parkhead club to follow their interest with an offer.
