Celtic are moving closer to agreeing a deal for Colombian striker Camilo Duran after a fresh claim suggests talks are at an advanced stage.

There was confusion over the last few days as conflicting reports suggested Celtic’s offer for Duran was accepted and then knocked back less than an hour later.

However, the latest update indicates Celtic and Qarabag are close to an agreement and that a deal to bring Duran to Glasgow may not be too far off.

Celtic’s persistence appears to be paying off

Even after having their initial bid for Duran rejected, Celtic persisted and according to journalist George Tsarouchas, the Colombian’s agent is in Glasgow to seal a ‘multi-year’ contract.

Qarabag boss Gurban Gurbanov was resigned to losing his star striker after Celtic links emerged and that could soon become a reality.

Why Camilo Duran remains a priority for Celtic

With Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract expiring and rumours suggesting Daizen Maeda could leave Celtic this summer, Martin O’Neill badly needs reinforcements in the forward areas.

And after Duran lit up the Champions League last season with four goals, it seems O’Neill is keen to bring a striker with proven experience against Europe’s elite teams.

If an agreement with Qarabag is reached, attention will quickly turn to completing personal terms and arranging Duran’s arrival in Glasgow to join Celtic as the club’s first summer signing.
