This evening’s update from Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph that Celtic are still pursuing Georgios Giakoumakis was a very welcome one.
That’s not just because of his goalscoring exploits in the Netherlands last season, where he finished top scorer. But it shows that Celtic are still working hard on targets even after spending heavily throughout the summer.
Six first-team players have arrived at the club since Ange Postecoglou was named as manager, plus a few more young projects.
Pleasingly, most of them are playing regularly in the manager’s team and have hit the ground running. Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada have both set Scottish football on fire.
But there’s clearly more to come. If Celtic are looking for a striker, it would make sense that targets in other positions are being pursued too. Another centre-half would be ideal, as would a left-sided player.
The transfer window closes on 31st August, so there’s still time to do a bit of work to Postecoglou’s squad. It’s needed.
Ange’s late Celtic transfer intentions are extremely encouraging
The next week is going to set the tone for Celtic’s season. A massive match in the Europa League, a massive match at Ibrox and the business of cracking on with transfers. If you’re not excited, you’re not paying attention!
These fans are eager for Celtic to get a deal done for Giakoumakis, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on the latest update…

VVV-Venlo seem to be caught in a fight by two clubs trying to both claim being skint to avoid paying over the odds for a player. The perfect transfer battle for the Celtic board 😂 https://t.co/v60M8S0Bix
