‘Got nothing’ – Brendan Rodgers delivers the update frustrated Celtic fans did not want to hear

Brendan Rodgers has told Celtic fans he has no fresh transfer news to deliver.

The Hoops manager is desperate to conclude deals to beef up his squad before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Celtic need at least two new wingers and possibly another striker, but bids are being rejected and time is running out for the Scottish Premiership champions.

Rodgers confirmed there is plenty of work going on in the background and is hopeful that Celtic can thrash out some transfers over the next few weeks.

He’s confident that, despite huge frustration from fans, that the work required will get done, because he explained the board have a track record of doing just that.

Rodgers delivers frank Celtic transfer update

Of course, Rodgers sat down with reporters to preview Celtic’s Premiership fixture with Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday.

But predictably, most of the chat once again was focused on what Celtic are doing in the transfer market at the moment.

Rodgers bluntly revealed: “There’s no news, no, I’ve got nothing new for you. It’s very clear what we need to improve and a lot of work going on, clearly. We’re hoping that we can conclude some deals and improve the squad.

“I think the board have shown over many years, numbers of years, that the work will get done. And obviously as a group that run the club and have run it so well for so many years, they have to get what they will feel is the best value for the players.

“Of course, as coaches and managers and supporters, you want the best players. But ultimately the club will be running in a way that makes sure that both the best players and the best value is there to be made.”

Will Celtic have signings in before Champions League play-off?

Rodgers was asked the question by a reporter, with Celtic due to face either Slovan Bratislava or Kairat Almaty on August 20 for the first leg at Parkhead.

The Northern Irishman was honest and explained he isn’t sure at all. He said: “I really don’t know. That’s my honest answer.

“We just have to keep working to look to get the players in and in the meantime work with the players that are here to make them the best that they can be.”
