Hyeongyu Oh’s Celtic future as further ‘interest’ emerges in South Korean striker

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers could offload several players this summer and Hyeongyu Oh is in the frame for a departure.

Genk have been hot on his tail this window; however, links have gone cold on whether he could leave Parkhead in the last few weeks.

Rodgers admitted last week that there has been some interest in Oh that the club will mull over before making a decision.

He stated: “There’s some interest in Oh, so we’ll assess that as a club and then manage that, but you see from tonight, his attitude is great. He had a good 45 minutes and worked hard. Let’s see what the coming days bring on that one.”

12 goals in 47 appearances isn’t an awful return from the South Korea international; nevertheless, he hasn’t been prolific during his time at Parkhead, spending most of his time playing second-fiddle behind Kyogo Furuhashi.

Following his strike during the week against Queen’s Park in pre-season, information has surfaced detailing further admiration for his talent.

Journalist notes Swansea City interest in Hyeongyu Oh

According to BBC journalist Ian Mitchelmore on X, Swansea City are mooted to be keen on Oh as Luke Williams seeks to add firepower in the final third.

He said via Korean football expert Joel Kim: “Think it’s time Joel moves to SA1! Certainly #Swans interest in Oh. Celtic keen to move him on, but a deal for the striker might prove tricky. Showed real promise under Ange Postecoglou but ultimately fell out of favour under Brendan Rodgers.”

It has become apparent for a while now that Oh could leave Celtic this summer. Instinctually, he is a capable forward with potential to grow into an exciting player; however, there is a growing likelihood that he won’t do that at Parkhead.

Adam Idah is a key target for the Bhoys. They remain in negotiations with Norwich City over a deal for the Republic of Ireland international, and the support would warmly greet his arrival.

Either way, a lack of clarity isn’t good for anyone involved, Celtic need to find the right balance across the squad, so hopefully, movement in both directions can start to occur.
