Chris Sutton has made it clear that Celtic need to bring in another left-back before the January transfer window slams shut.
The injury to Greg Taylor has come at the wrong time because it has only increased Brendan Rodgers’ need for a left-back.
Before the Scotland star entered the treatment room, there was talk that another left-back could possibly sign this month.
And now Chris Sutton has stated that he would be ‘surprised’ if another left-back doesn’t arrive at Celtic before Thursday’s cut-off point, as he told Deadline Day on Sky Sports (01/02/24 at 3:05 pm).
There was talk of Owen Beck of Liverpool, but that was put to bed when he represented the Reds recently, before returning to Dundee on a loan deal.
Another name that has been thrown into the hat is PSG left-back, Layvin Kurzawa, but because of the French champions’ financial demands, a deal could be difficult.
All in all, that left-back Chris Sutton craves, might not arrive after all.
Will Celtic sign a left-back?
“I will be surprised if Celtic don’t bring in another left-back,” said Sutton. “They have been crying out for a left-back for a long, long time.
“I know Greg Taylor has done okay, but he is injured.”
Pressure on Alexandro Bernabei
This just puts extra pressure on a player who hasn’t got going in Glasgow and has left some surprised that he is still at the club.
Alexandro Bernabei started Celtic’s 1-0 win over Ross County, and in truth, did his job and faired well.
But if the Bhoys are to be without Taylor for some time, then it will mean having to rely on Bernabei on a consistent basis and that’s where fans will start to get worried.
Either way, this is another example of a very poor window not going the way fans wanted it to.
