Read More"I'm not sure his agent would've been too happy with him"; Hyeongyu Oh's class Celtic desire revealed
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has shared that Hyeongyu Oh went the extra mile to push through his deal at the Bhoys, to the extent it may have annoyed his agent.
Oh has signed a five-year deal with Celtic after making the switch from Suwon Bluewings in South Korea and it appears the striker’s personal desire to play for the club was a huge factor.
For Postecoglou, that’s a big reason why he is so happy to welcome the forward into the Celtic dressing room.
In a media conference today, the Bhoys boss said [Celtic YouTube]: “I kind of knew straight after I got off the call with him [Oh], that he was exactly the right type for us. His own determination to get a deal done shows you that. For him, it wasn’t about driving the best deal for himself and I am not sure his agent would have been too happy with him. He just wanted to come to Celtic and it didn’t matter what the deal was – he just wanted to come and play for us.
“As a manager that excites you, because that’s the kind of players you want in the building. That’s not to say that others don’t say that. But sometimes you pick up on things that they say and you think, ‘I am not entirely convinced that person will fit into our dressing room or really wants to be with us or he’s just exploring his options.’
“With Oh, I knew straight away that he wanted to come to us and I thought that made him a great fit.”
These are fantastic comments and will certainly provide more hope to supporters that Celtic have landed a gem with Oh.
It’s rare for a manager to share that a player has such a strong built-in desire to play for a club. Football is a business after all. But it appears the Bhoys were a special pull for the young striker as he embarks on a big career in Europe.
That kind of mentality, as Ange says, suggests he will be a nice fit with this group of players. It’s the perfect attitude to have when looking to make a positive impression on a new club.
All eyes are on that debut to come!
