Jamie Vardy will leave Leicester City at the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

The 38-year-old, who is regarded as the club’s greatest-ever player, has been tipped to join many clubs, including moving to Scotland and signing for either Celtic or Rangers on a free transfer.

Kyogo Furuhashi left Celtic during the January transfer window, and since then, Daizen Maeda has taken his game to the next level, and Adam Idah has also put in some strong performances for the Treble-chasers.

But Celtic didn’t replace Kyogo in the winter, and the supporters are expecting a striker to arrive when the summer transfer window re-opens.

Could that come in the form of Vardy? Who will play his final game for relegated Leicester on Sunday when they take on Bournemouth and end his 13-year association with the Foxes.

Ally McCoist discussed the future of the veteran striker and where he could end up.

Ally McCoist put in his place about Jamie Vardy joining Rangers with Celtic message

It’s that time of season again, Rangers need another re-build, and they need added quality all over the squad, as they watch Celtic lift another title.

McCoist stated that he would take Vardy at Ibrox in ‘two minutes’ after hearing about the Englishman’s availability ahead of the summer window.

But his co-pundit, and commentator, Geoff Peters, put the former Rangers striker in his place in a brutal fashion by stating Vardy will have something ‘higher’ lined up, such as joining Celtic, as he told talkSPORT.

“Some things were just written in stone, and he was going to score against Ipswich Town,” said McCoist. “He was always going to score (his 200th goal for Leicester).

“But something tells me that he has something organised. Whether it’s America. Or another club. I think he will have something organised.

“We were having a discussion, me and my Rangers mates, I would take him in two minutes at Rangers. I really, really would.”

Leicester fan and commentator Geoff Peters responded: “Do you think maybe he has got something even higher lined up than Rangers, like maybe Celtic?”

McCoist then responded: “Steady on. Geoff, steady on. Just calm down.”

Peters then continued: “Can you imagine? A mate did text me last night, ‘Oh, I could see him playing at Celtic’.

“I am thinking, ‘imagine if he scored in a Glasgow derby’, and he started giving all the grief to the opposition fans. That really wouldn’t go down well.”

Vardy’s record at Leicester City

Vardy was a late bloomer in his career, not making his debut in English football’s top-flight until 2014, but it was worth the wait for what he went on to achieve.

Of course, the standout is that historic Premier League title win under Claudio Ranieri in 2016, including the FA Cup under Brendan Rodgers.

There is no doubt that Vardy could do the job at Celtic Park, it’s just a case of whether his profile suits the champions of Scotland right now.
