James McFadden sends a passionate Celtic transfer message after what he ‘keeps hearing’

Celtic fans are beginning to become restless, and you don’t blame them.

It’s past the halfway stage of the January transfer window, and only one fresh face has arrived at Parkhead, and that’s Julian Araujo.

Given that Celtic sacked Wilfried Nancy at the start of the month, you can probably understand that whatever he wanted and was planning needed to be thrown in the bin.

But what the Celtic fans won’t accept is the hole the board have put the club in, as even James McFadden is pleading for new players to arrive.

The first thing I would do if I was on the Celtic board is – – – –

James McFadden on what he ‘keeps hearing’ about Celtic’s January transfer window

To nobody’s surprise, Celtic beat Falkirk under Martin O’Neill’s guidance on Wednesday night, but once again, the performance was lacking and telling.

Speaking on Open Goal, McFadden stated that he ‘keeps hearing’ that the champions of Scotland need to bring in players to ‘supplement’ the squad.

But he wanted to shoot that down, as he made it clear that the Hoops desperately require players to ‘strengthen’ the starting XI.

McFadden: “They need players. They need strengthening.”

Si Ferry: “But their XI players should be better than Falkirk’s.”

McFadden: “I agree, but on their day, they are. But they still need players. You are asking the same players again to go and play.

“They definitely need a striker. They need to bring a freshness in. I keep hearing ‘to supplement the squad.’

“The squad doesn’t need supplementing. The team needs strengthening. It’s not about bringing in squad players. It’s about bringing in guys that are ready to go and start.”

Is the Irish market ideal for Celtic?

McFadden tells Celtic which areas need to be targeted

The obvious one, and the area everyone is talking about, is the striker department.

You even have O’Neill openly talking about Celtic searching for a striker, as lots of names have been linked.

But McFadden also threw on the table the right wing spot, and somebody to come in, even though he thinks Yang has been performing well of late.

“They need a striker,” added McFadden. “They probably need two. Iheanacho is due back soon, isn’t he? How long for? So, you need another.

“So, you need, without doubt, one striker. I think Yang has done well. But I would say you still need somebody that you would bring in to strengthen that area. I don’t mind that, strengthening from that area.

“We have been saying it for a year, since Kyogo left. We have been saying it for a year. Why would you let him leave if you haven’t got the replacement? Then you don’t replace him.

“Then, Idah, who wasn’t good enough to start every game, you let him go and don’t bring his replacement in.”
