South Korean international striker Cho Gue-sung was one of the names most consistently linked with a move to Celtic in January and while that switch eventually didn’t come off, it seems he is now finally set to make an impact on European football.

The Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath reports that the forward now has a deal in place with Danish side FC Midtjylland, worth about £2.6m to his club Jeonbuk. That comes amidst interest from English sides in the Championship including Watford, Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City.

Cho seemed destined for a Celtic move back in January but it eventually became apparent he preferred a summer move to a winter one and the Bhoys eventually went on to secure a deal for Hyeongyu Oh.

Oh settled well into life at the Bhoys, scoring seven goals in his first 21 appearances, many of which were from the bench. With a full pre-season under his belt, he is expected to make an even bigger impact next term.

Cho always had a bit more experience at 25 and over 20 caps for his country, but the Bhoys opted for the younger player’s potential and it doesn’t look like a misstep at this stage.

It’ll be interesting to see how Cho gets on in Denmark. Midtjylland didn’t have the best 2022/23 season by their standards but still managed to go on and secure a UEFA Europa Conference League spot.

The South Korean market is one that continues to be of interest to Celtic with Yang Hyun-jun reported to be the subject of formal offers from the Bhoys.

It will now always be worth checking out how Korean players do in various European leagues, knowing that Celtic are undoubtedly shopping in the same area and on the hunt for bargain deals.
