Celtic have reached a ‘basic agreement’ to sign Daizen Maeda from Yokohama F.Marinos, Yahoo! Japan have reported this evening.

The outlet believes that Maeda will move for an initial six-month loan, with Celtic able to complete the transfer for just £1.68m in the summer transfer window [€2m]. It’s said that Maeda will soon travel to England before making the switch to Glasgow.

Maeda finished top scorer in J1-League in 2021, netting an impressive 23 goals in 36 league appearances.

Maeda would be an exciting Celtic acquisition

He has, of course, worked with Ange Postecoglou before. It’s the first time that the Celtic boss will bring one of his former players to the club.

Maeda is a sharp, quick and tenacious attacker who can play on the left flank or centrally as a striker.

Highlight packages put him very much in the mould of Kyogo Furuhashi as a pressing forward who will add real energy to the Celtic frontline.

Celtic have also been heavily linked with other Japanese talents Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi. As of yet though, there has been no official announcement from the club or official word from the manager.

Rumours have circulated around Maeda all week, but it seems the move is finally reaching its conclusion.

In other news, Ange has just given the clearest sign yet that Celtic are going to have a class January window.
