Jens Berthel Askou states what’s ‘very easy’ amid Tawanda Maswanhise and Celtic transfer talk

Celtic fans got a look at their new striker on Sunday at Hearts.

Tomas Cvancara made a steady start to his Celtic career, but could the Hoops add more firepower to their squad?

Motherwell striker Tawanda Maswanhise has been mentioned a few times as the clock ticks towards the deadline.

To nobody’s surprise, it has been another bleak, pitiful and joyless January transfer window from Celtic.

And, judging by Jens Berthel Askou’s comments, you could probably wave away the possibility of Maswanhise putting on the green and white colours this month.

Is Tawanda Maswanhise Celtic quality?

Jens Berthel Askou on Tawanda Maswanhise transfer talk as he scores for Motherwell again

All eyes were on Celtic’s clash against Hearts at Tynecastle, but 24 hours earlier, Motherwell ran all over Kilmarnock at Fir Park by putting four goals past them.

Maswanhise got on the scoresheet just before the break, and his manager was asked about his transfer situation.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, Askou stated that it’s ‘very easy’ for his player to focus on what is happening at Motherwell because all the transfer talk is from the outside.

“The transfer talk is mainly in the media and not in this building,” said Askou. “Not with him or his agent.

“So, it’s very easy to focus on what we need to do here, and that is to make sure we are successful. That we improve, and he improves. That we keep setting him up in front of the goal because he is very effective. He is doing really well.

“It was like telling your son, it’s time to go to bed now. He wanted to play for another half an hour. It was clear, and I get that.

“But we are now getting into a spell of a lot of games where we need to keep him fresh and sharp.”

Benjamin Nygren battling it out with Maswanhise

Benjamin Nygren scored a stunning free-kick to open the scoring for Celtic against Hearts; it was his 11th strike of the campaign.

That put Nygren as the joint top-scorer in the Premiership, after 23 matches, alongside Maswanhise and Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland.
