Celtic’s goalkeeping situation has been a big talking point with Joe Hart’s current deal set to expire next summer.
What adds further fuel to the fire is when the 36-year-old starts to make mistakes, as he has done in the Premiership and the Champions League this season, it just opens that debate even further.
One of Celtic’s back-up goalkeepers is Benjamin Siegrist, a man brought in during the summer of 2022 on a free transfer after his success at Dundee United.
At the time, John Hartson thought ‘everybody in Scotland’ would have signed the 31-year-old because he was ‘the best goalkeeper in the country’, as he told Go Radio.
But, fast forward to the present, and the former striker thinks it just hasn’t worked out for the Swiss star.
Only two Celtic appearances to the name of Benjamin Siegrist, as he is even struggling to make the bench under Brendan Rodgers this season.

“Siegrist was the best goalkeeper in the country when Celtic bought him,” said Hartson.
“He hasn’t been playing. Everybody would have signed Siegrist. Everyone in Scotland would have signed Siegrist.
“That one hasn’t quite worked out, as probably the player and the club expected to.”

Celtic need to trim the squad in January
After getting booted out of the Champions League in the same disappointing fashion, talk has turned to the squad and the quality within it.
It has resulted in talk around the squad needing bulking up ahead of the January transfer window – Chris Sutton labelled Kris Boyd a ‘fool’ on Sky for his comments.
But, whilst that also needs to happen, the squad also needs trimming, with some players hardly playing or certain individuals out of contract.
